Crowns are their in-game premium store currency, think gems in Guild Wars 2.

It also gives you infinite bag for your crafting materials, 10% more gold and experience and 1,500 crowns monthly. There is an optional sub called ESO+ which gives you some benefits like access to all released and future DLC as long as you're subbed (but not chapters, so far 2 were released, the mentioned Morrowind which is included in standard edition and Summerset Isles from june 2018). There are frequently problems a lot of users have with the steam version, mostly with logins. And I really recommend buying from their official site rather than steam. Guess it's not that expensive nowadays anyway.

Shame you didn't decide to get into it sooner, they had a sale like a week ago and the standard edition was for like 10 eur/usd, they also had a free week trial 2 weeks ago. Right now your best option/cheapest would probably be buying the ESO Standard Edition which includes the base game and the Morrowind chapter (their name for big expansions).

There's no sub, it's buy to play like GW2. There are also activities and things designed for multiple people but like 80-90% of content is absolutely soloable and it's a blast. Since it's set 1000 years before Skyrim and respectively 800 years before TES 3 and Oblivion the devs have a ton of lore and history they can work with and they really are using a lot of the TES universe in great ways for worldbuilding. It often feels just like a regular TES game. I just love The Elder Scrolls universe and I was looking for something to fill the void and lack of a new TES and it's been pretty great.

I've been playing ESO on and off as a primarily singleplayer game for about 3 years now with probably 1000 hours invested. With that being said, here are all 15 Elder Scrolls games ranked from worst to best.Don't watch old reviews or old videos, the game has changed and improved a ton since 2014. If you disagree with the list, we hope you'll offer your own insights in the comments and explain why you would rank them differently.

#Are the elder scrolls games based around the same story series
We include both the official numbered main games in the Elder Scrolls series as well as the expansion packs and spin-offs. Like many fictional worlds, endless debates arise among Elder Scrolls fans over which of the games are overall better than the others. Nowadays Elder Scrolls is widely considered one of the greatest video games franchises of all time, with each game winning Game of the Year from multiple publications. Though its first installment Arena was originally planned to be a gladiatorial combat game, the developers kept adding on side quests and lore until it became more similar to Dungeons and Dragons than anything, eventually scrapping the fighting game idea for an open-world RPG series, and the rest is gaming history. The Elder Scrolls series takes place in many different provinces across the continent of Tamriel with wildly different environments, characters, towns and storylines, but they all have a few things in common: swords, magic, and a sense of awe and wonder. Bethesda's beloved Elder Scrolls series has been around for over 20 years now, rising above its humble epic fantasy origins in Arena and becoming an open-world universe of its own with the release of epic adventures like the beloved Morrowind, the successful and influential Oblivion, and of course the exploding popularity of Skyrim.
